Editorial Review for Almond – by Josh Ozersky

In Short
Almond has long been a favorite of Hamptons residents for its solid, unpretentious food and mood, and the team behind the summer favorite has moved the concept more or less unchanged into a Flatiron space that has had more restaurants fail there than there are stars in the sky. The restaurant is betting that a long and meaty menu of comfort foods (lamb belly daube, roasted lobster, breaded veal breast "milanese," truffled macaroni and cheese) will do the trick, if accompanied, as here, by a warmly colored room of whitewashed brick and prices attuned to recession pocketbooks.

The food is amazing, the cocktails are yummy and the service defines hospitality. A place to go to be comfortable, eat great food, all at a very affordable price. I go back again and again. Don't Miss - the Raw Seafood Sampler for only 15 dollars its a steal.

Pros: comfortable, great service, warm, inviting

Cons: its so good that you want to keep ordering more food

I love this place - will definitely go back! I have never been to the hamptons so don't know what the other place is like but this place is great - the bar is nice and big and the bartenders very capable! I had the plat du jour when I was there which was the whole fish - a very generous portion and delicious sides served with and cooked perfectly. The mood of the place was friendly and relaxed - I am so glad there is finally a good solid restaurant in this space!

Pros: ambience, food

Cons: a bit crowded
